“It is such an honor to be able to work with the wonderful students and faculty at Harkers Island Elementary.  Harkers Island is a slice of paradise that my husband and I, along with our two children, Katy and Greyson call home.  Both of my children attended HIES which shaped them into the great students they are as they will both attend East Carteret High School this year. I have learned a great deal and gained a lot of experience working at the Carteret County Public School’s Central Office in both the Finance and Curriculum and Instruction Departments, but the opportunity to influence and be surrounded by children every day is one I am excited about!  My husband, Lloyd Willis, the Carteret County School’s Transportation Director, and I joined this impressive school system over 8 years ago and we are very proud to be a part of this family.  I look forward to contributing to the rich legacy that Harkers Island Elementary represents and the community it serves.  Go Islanders!!!”

WELCOME LEANN ARTHUR

Welcome LeAnn Arthur!

Our 4th Grade Teacher

“Hello Islanders! I am a North Carolinian who was born and raised in a small town called Burlington.  I went to East Carolina University to fulfill my dreams of teaching and received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.  Afterwards, I taught fifth grade for a total of eight years in Graham and Wilson.  In 2011, I came to Raleigh to teach third grade, while furthering my education to receive a master’s degree in Reading Education. As a teacher, I provide an organized, fun, and safe learning environment where students are supported and celebrated. I strive to prepare students to be responsible, kind, productive citizens who enjoy learning for a lifetime.

In 2017, my fiancé, James and I became engaged. We fell in love with the beautiful coastal waters and our new residence is in Stacy.  He recently became employed for the City of Havelock and has started working there with the hopes that I could move east soon.  I am so excited to have the opportunity to join the Islander family.  My hobbies include, reading for enjoyment, loving my fur babies (Sophie and Midnight), walking, and spending time with family and friends.  I am looking forward to a successful school year and meeting the families of the Harkers Island community”
